I stopped using the word “alternative” as it implies it maybe be less good. I just say “open source” now.

In reality, open source software almost always is a better product as it’s designed by people wanting it, not by a bunch of managers wanting more money directing a bunch of developers who just want their salary.

Also: a lot of the mainstream software has Linux clients, if you look for them

Yeah… The main thing I see here is that China (read; government , not the people, not being racist here) will take this code, they will make improvements on it, they will NOT give back. Basically like Microsoft, but now an entire country.

Though I hate systemd with a passion, this does seem to be a “doh” situation…

I know it sucks for the call center personnel to have to listen to people yelling at them, but I’ve had multiple of such companies that were so shitty that the only way to get anything fixed was to keep making people cry until finally someone would push you to a supervisor. Well at enough of them and they will either fix the issue or push you through to their supervisors who will do anything to stop the yelling.

I got to the point where I’ll just make then cry because it’s the only option left to get any normal responsible behavior from companies. I’ll have to call 20 times perhaps but that’s what I’ll do then
