    Shit.

    This could work. “We only scan your shit with your permission” might placate enough people for them to not realise that to make that possibly at all, security has already been compromised, as required by law.

    This does not alleviate the issues of the original proposal in any way whatsoever.

        Except that in this case even if you say no, the law has already required that e2ee be broken and backdoored.

    Regardless of whether they actively scan only with permission and only images, it still breaks the security for everyone as images are sent with the same security as text. And future governments might not be so kind with the ability to break into everyone’s communications.

    This is bad news.

    Can’t believe these asshats are still hiding their megalomaniac desire for power and control behind the well being of children. If we ever need perpetual surveillance it’s to keep scum like them in check.
